India improves sex assault tests

– India is bringing in new measures to strengthen investigations into sexual assault and reduce a backlog of cases awaiting DNA testing.

More laboratories will be built and new guidelines issued to stop evidence contamination. Under half the 25 000 cases that go to laboratories each year are processed, while 20% of reports do not hold up in court due to contamination, chief forensic scientist S K Jain said. – Reuters
