Israel’s hopes for Golan a bit high

– Israel still hopes the US will recognise its claim to sovereignty over the Golan Heights, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday, after a top US official said the issue is not under consideration by Washington.

Israel captured the Golan from Syria in 1967 and annexed it, a move not endorsed internationally.

In May, a top Israeli official said US recognition may come soon. But this week US National Security Advisor John Bolton said there was talk about it. – Reuters
