Media’s relationship with Malema is alarming

Why is he never scrutinised or held to account, asks Ntokozo Sithole from Berea.

Ifind the media’s relationship with the Economic Freedom Fighters alarming. How is it that Julius Malema can go off at a tangent and not a single journalist will scrutinise or hold him to account?

I also find the media’s reference to him as commander-in-chief very disheartening.

You are journalists, not EFF supporters. And, even if you are, your duty is to report without fear or favour.

The tenacity with which some senior journalists hold leaders of the ANC and DA to account vanishes when dealing with the, at times, baseless and problematic utterances from the EFF.

The press must do some introspection and remember the incredibly important role they play in forming the public’s opinions.

I fear that they are setting an incredibly dangerous precedent and it may be one they will soon come to regret.
