I could not believe it – Nic

- Citizen reporter

The first time Nic Catzavelos came to hear of the racist video made by his younger brother, Adam, pictured, was when Adam sent it to some of his friends and it landed up on Facebook.

“He was in a total panic and I asked him to send the video to me,” Nic told Talk Radio 702 host Eusebius McKaiser during an hour-long interview yesterday.

“When I saw the video, I could not believe what I was seeing and, at that point, I realised this thing was going to blow up even though it had gone nowhere near mainstream media. I knew this thing was going where it has gone.”

The “thing” Nic refers to is of course Adam’s racist video he made on a Mykonos beach in Greece glorifying the exclusive presence of Caucasians by saying there was not a single “k **** r in sight”.

Nic said his brother was looking for help. “I said to him, clearly there is absolutely nothing I can do for you, what’s going to happen is going to happen and you are going to need to, and I am also going to need to, ride the storm.”

Have you heard this language before? McKaiser asked, to which Nic responded: “Yes.”

The last time he heard Adam use the k-word was when he went for a hike in the Drakensberg four months ago with two of his friends. “It was a five-day hike and they were attacked on top of the mountain. He said to me boulders the size of my head were thrown at his tent while he was sleeping.

“And he came down from that hike and the first time I saw him, and he did use this language. He was furious and he said to me he’s had enough of this country ...”

Adam Catzavelos has not yet returned to South Africa.
