ANC names its choice

- Rorisang Kgosana

The Tshwane ANC would put up its new leader, Kgosi Maepa, to lead the capital as its plan to oust mayor Solly Msimanga was in motion.

The capital city’s opposition party called for a press briefing yesterday, shortly after Msimanga met the media to give feedback on the upcoming motion of no confidence.

The EFF was also to table its own motion of no confidence.

Should it succeed, newly elected ANC leader of the region, Maepa, would take the seat, he told the media yesterday.

He said the motion was at the request of “the people”.

“The ANC has listened to the communities. We have taken the position to fit the seat with Kgosi Maepa.

“We are aware that no political party has won an outright majority and we have lobbied for a motion of no confidence with other parties who submitted the same motion,” Maepa said.

He said the party had asked for a secret ballot and urged black Democratic Alliance members to also vote with their conscience.

“We are asking parties to vote out the executive mayor, who has been proven to be running a corrupt administration in the city, right from his office.”
