Trillian to face Eskom in court

-

Eskom will sue Trillian later this year to recover R600 million from the firm linked to the infamous Gupta family, the utility’s CEO, Phakamani Hadebe, told members of parliament yesterday.

“In December, we will be going to court to face Trillian to demand our R600 million,” Hadebe told a joint sitting of parliament’s portfolio committees on energy and public enterprises.

He was giving a briefing on progress made in targeting misconduct and corruption at Eskom.

He said that during efforts to clean up Eskom after the state capture scandal, in which companies linked to the Guptas allegedly siphoned billions of rands out of parastatals, 10 senior executives had “exited” Eskom, adding “this is not the end, more will come up”.

Eskom paid Trillian R698 million in 2016, on the instruction of global consulting firm McKinsey, which recently agreed to repay R902 million it was paid by Eskom without a valid contract. – ANA
