Lula tries again to get reprieve
– Brazil’s Supreme Court will rule in September on an appeal by jailed former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to be freed so he can join the presidential campaign, a court spokesperson said yesterday.
Lula is serving a 12-year term on a graft conviction that will almost certainly disqualify him from running. He has appealed a decision by a Supreme Court justice not to release him. The appeal ruling will be between September 7 and 13.
