‘Big’ result for clinical Spurs

-

– Tottenham Hotspur have made a massive statement with Monday’s 3-0 Premier League win over Manchester United, England striker Harry Kane said after the match.

Kane opened the scoring early in the second half at Old Trafford before a double from Lucas Moura sealed the win as Spurs maintained their 100% start to the season.

“It’s massive, just what we needed,” Kane told Tottenham’s website. “We wanted to put a statement out there.

“We need to kill teams off, especially away from home. After the goal we had the high press, we were playing it quicker, moving in behind and punished them when we needed to.

“We took our chances and coming here to Old Trafford and winning 3-0 is a big, big result.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino never once considered stripping skipper Hugo Lloris of the captaincy despite the French goalkeeper being charged with drink driving on Friday.

However, Pochettino insisted his backing for the French World Cup winner is no justification for his actions.

Lloris, 31, was arrested in the early hours of Friday before being released on bail and will face a magistrate’s court hearing on September 11.

But he starred in keeping a clean sheet against United on Monday.

“I never even considered that,” said Pochettino when asked about rumours Lloris could be replaced as captain by Harry Kane.

“I was in contact with him. So bad experience for him, he apologise (to) our fans, us, the club, he showed his regret and apologised (to) all the country because the responsibility is massive.

“It is a massive lesson for everyone. Hugo is punishing himself, he feels so sorry and so bad because he knows he made a big mistake.

“But, in the same way, I think it is completely out of character and we are going to of course support him, but we cannot justify his actions.” – Reuters, AFP
