Expiry dates being exaggerated

-

The saga of expiry dates on food on shelves is exaggerated by the police and looters. It applies to mainly items such as bread, which is still edible five days after the expiry date.

Expired meat can be a health hazard but the tinned stuff is still edible a few months after the best before dates. Only the taste and flavour are compromised.

So, the looting of expired goods is not the issue.

Looting and xenophobia are all about mindsets and are excuses for criminality against foreigners offering services and businesses in townships.

There must be clarity from now on, on all foodstuffs. Also, the millions of bottles of medicines and tablets that are also a very important matter.

They should not only have a best before date, but another that says “do not use after this date!” Farouk Saloojee, Rustenburg
