Mlambo beacon of hope for Bucs
MIDFIELD STAR: WE NEED TO BUILD ON LAST SEASON
27-year-old voted club’s best player for month of August.
It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Orlando Pirates as a team, but individual performances from the likes of midfielder Xola Mlambo is something that has kept the club’s supporters believing that the team will soon find its feet.
The 27-year-old midfielder has been one of Bucs’ best-performing players despite their unconvincing start to the new season and the club’s supporters have voted him their best player in the club’s competition which ran on their social media platforms for the month of August.
Mlambo has featured in all of Pirates’ last six games, five games in the league and one in the MTN8, in which they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by SuperSport United.
They have managed to record only two wins in the league, rounded off by one draw and two losses leaving them in fourth spot in the Absa Premiership with seven points.
In his second season with the club, the former Bidvest Wits star says the team are working very hard to get back to their best.
“We finished the season strongly last year and we need to build on that. We have an international break now where we can focus fully on preparations and look forward to getting back into the swing of things when we resume in the league,” Mlambo told the club’s website.
“This award has added to my motivation and will be a constant reminder that I need to keep working hard. One thing is for sure, if I’m working hard enough to get recognised, it also means I’m pushing for my team to do well at the same time.”
After the international break, Mlambo and company will resume their league campaign with a clash against Matsatsantsa on September 15th at Orlando Stadium.
