Winners, but Zwane not happy
Kaizer Chiefs reserve team coach Arthur Zwane (above) was slightly disappointed with the start his side made to their MultiChoice Diski Challenge campaign, even though they beat Golden Arrows 1-0 at Hammarsdale Stadium on Sunday.
“If you look at our performance it was really scrappy, I am not very happy with our performance. We will take the three points home, but there are a lot of things we need to work on,” said the Amakhosi coach.
“However, it is the first time we have started on a high note (with a win), which is very positive for the boys and good momentum compared to two previous seasons where we started on a low note and it wrecked our confidence. We would drop a lot of points unnecessarily, but in the second half of the season we picked ourselves up.”
Meanwhile, arch-rivals Orlando Pirates didn’t have the best of starts to the season, losing 3-1 to AmaZulu at the same venue. Bayanda Shangase, Sibusiso Maluleke and Charlie Hlalele got the goals for Usuthu, while Bucs’ only goal of the match came courtesy of Simiso Bophela.
In the other game, Mamelodi Sundowns got off to an impressive start with a 3-0 victory over Maritzburg United. Rivaldo Coetzee made his return from a long-term injury in this game, while midfielder Katlego Otladisa also started for Downs.
“We are happy with the start. The last three seasons have been tough for us, losing all the first games. We are building on the foundation from last year. We added a few players and are looking at the future for the senior team. We have slowly plugged some holes in terms of finding the right balance in the team,” said Notoane.
