Jayiya has uphill battle

BIG CHALLENGE: FORMER WITS AND CAPE TOWN CITY STAR WILL FIGHT HARD

- Sibongiseni Gumbi

Bongolethu Jayiya has admitted he is finding it a little difficult to adjust at Kaizer Chiefs but promises he will soon fit the profile the coach demands of him.

The 28-year-old winger joined the club from Cape Town City in July 2017 and has made 16 appearances since then. Jayiya said he has thought about his stay at Amakhosi and is working on improving.

“Sometimes you need to sit down and reflect on yourself,” he said during an interview in Durban last weekend. “It happens that you had been a regular and you come to a new team and find they have players they believe in. You then have to make them see you are another player they can believe in. I have to keep working hard and push all the time,” he added.

One of the challenges Jayiya said he has had to go through is to change his style and learn to adapt to what is needed from him by Giovanni Solinas.

“Chiefs have a different style of play from what I am used to,” he explained. “As a winger I am used to staying on the line, but at Chiefs I have to play inside and closer to the No 10. That’s an interesting factor I have to bring onto my game which is coming along nicely and as time goes I will get right,” he said.

Although the former Bidvest Wits player has struggled to hold down a regular berth at the Glamour Boys, he feels he still has time to make his mark and is not thinking about a move away as yet.

“It’s still early for me to think about leaving. I have to keep pushing for my place,” he said. Jayiya could be in the team to face his former side Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The match is set for a 3pm start. Chiefs are yet to win in the Absa Premiership and will hope a trip to the Mother City will give them some joy.
