Munger has the hunger

Newly appointed Glen Kotzen stable jockey Ryan Munger holds a strong hand early on at Durbanville on Saturday.

Herodotus made his way into many a little black book when he ran on strongly from last to be a clear second to Majestic Mozart on debut three weeks ago.

On that evidence, and with the benefit of the experience, the Green Street owned colt looks very difficult to oppose in Race 3, and is worth a bet.

Main threat looks to be Vaughan Marshall’s Caesura. He was runner-up here on debut in March, and has since placed twice in good company at Scottsville.

While his Merit Rating of 84 seems a little exaggerated, he will give plenty of cheek if ready after three months off.

The Barrister and Gimme Peace look best of the rest.

Munger might actually already have a win under his belt when that race is run, as Strawberry Girl in Race 2 also looks a standout.

She made her debut on the same day as Herodotus, and similarly came from way back to win going away after Faye and Contessa’s Glance had looked to be battling it out.

The Judpot filly quickened like an above average sort, and has hardly been pitched in at an over ambitious level in this lowly FM68 Handicap. From a good draw she should carry too much firepower for this limited group of fillies.

The up-and-coming Munger also has decent winning prospects in the fourth, this time an ‘away’ ride for Candice Bass-Robinson.

Travel In Style kept on well to only go down a neck last time, and a repeat would give her a definite Each Way chance in a very open FM82 Handicap over 1600m.
