Cheptegui out to retain his title

Having scorched his way to a South African all-comers’ record at last year’s inaugural event, brilliant Ugandan distance runner Joshua Cheptegei hopes to produce another quick time next month when he returns to the country to defend his crown at the FNB CitySurfRun 10km race.

“I want to keep my title and believe I can run a really fast time in Durban, now that I know the route,” Cheptegei said yesterday after being confirmed in the elite field.

Cheptegei, who won the 5 000m and 10 000m titles at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April, completed the CitySurfRun in 27:28 last year.
