Jonty’s picks

Real Zaragoza and Deportivo La Coruna meet today in the second round of Spain’s Copa Del Rey, two famous sides that have fallen from grace in recent times. Zaragoza have won the Copa Del Rey six times, most recently in 2004, but they currently play in the second tier of Spanish football, after missing out on promotion to La Liga in the play-offs last season.

Deportivo, for their part, Spanish champions in 2000 and Copa Del Rey winners twice, were relegated from La Liga last season, joining Zaragoza in Spain’s second tier.

Both teams have started their league seasons pretty well, and have exactly the same record unbeaten with two wins and two draws from four games. Both won last weekend too, Zaragoza hammering Real Oviedo 4-0 away from home, while Deportivo picked up a 1-0 win at home to Sporting Gijon. With Real having home advantage in this one, I will give them the edge, but only just.
