PAC wins war to replace its sole MP

- Ilse de Lange

The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) yesterday announced they had obtained a court order to remove Luthando Mbinda as the PAC’s sole representative in parliament.

PAC spokesperson Kenneth Mokgatlhe said the party expelled Mbinda in June 2017, but could not remove him from parliament because he was protected by the speaker.

Mokgatlhe said Judge Mmonoa Tedford granted an order for Mbinda’s removal, which the party would use to pave the way for Alton Mphethi to be sworn in as the PAC’s representative in parliament next week.

He said the speaker’s office confirmed they had received the court order, but demanded an official stamp before parliament could act on it.

According to Mokgatlhe, the party was considering taking legal action against parliament for causing harm to the party by getting involved in its internal affairs.

The dispute about the PAC’s leadership has been the subject of numerous court battles.
