Champ back in action tomorrow

- Ken Nicol

Newly crowned champion jockey Lyle Hewitson makes his return from injury tomorrow, taking a couple of rides for Sean Tarry at Turffontein.

He partners handicappers New Zealand and Count Tassilo in Races 6 and 9 respectively.

And it’s well timed as well, as he will be jetting off to Singapore next week to take part in the inaugural PGI Jockeys Challenge, presented by Phumelela Gaming & Leisure and TABCORP, where he will be part of Team SA with Muzi Yeni and Aldo Domeyer.

Clearly delighted to be back in the fray, he posted the following on Instagram: “Looking forward to being back in the race saddle & making my seasonal debut on Saturday after an injury enforced break. Thanks to everyone involved who helped with the recovery and I’m keen to get back to best.”

As an added bonus, the three members of Team SA have also been granted a visiting jockeys’ licence by the Singapore Turf Club to ride at the Raffles Cup meeting on 23 September.
