ENTERTAINING: A FUN FESTIVAL EVERYONE IS BOUND TO ENJOY

-

Where culinary stars meet music.

DStv’s Delicious International Food and Music Festival has grown into one of South Africa’s biggest for discerning taste, where food isn’t slap chips and wors, and the music on offer is decidedly more mature.

Next weekend neo-soul icon Erykah Badu will headline the two-day festival at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

But the other star at the festival is food and this year there’s an exciting line-up thanks to the Delicious Mile.

The festival’s Gourmet StreetFood Market allows revellers to visit the Coca-Cola Taste of the City, which will boast 10 pop-up restaurants that will serve up their flagship dishes.

Or you can opt to enjoy a multi-course meal curated by celebrity chef Reuben Riffel.

For those who like to dine a little more privately, the long-table restaurant will have its own private bar with a variety of drinks that will perfectly complement every bite.

The festival is also focused on keeping ingredients local.

“The tens of thousands of visitors to the festival spend their money on the hundreds of local food and drink outlets, which keeps the revenue generated by the local economy. We’re extremely proud that more than 80% of our supply chain is local,” says festival director Lloyd Cornwall.

On the music side, the festival has become renowned for including top international acts with local artists.

Amanda Black will join a league of leading women on the Womandla set on September 22.

She will be part of a festive celebration of the power of women in music and heritage, alongside Lira and Simphiwe Dana.

Liz Ogumbo, the Kenyan born singer-songwriter who is making her name as a fashion model and producer, is billed to perform on September 23.

The globe-trotting renaissance DJ, Miss Ducasse, whose love for house helped establish Durban’s deep house music scene before taking the world by storm, will be bringing her old school House Music to the festival. She will be opening both event days at the Vodacom Dance Arena hosted by Oskido and KayaFM.

Opening the main stage is afro-soul star Zethe, who’ll bring the magic on the Sunday, sharing the stage with Erykah Badu, who’ll close the Main Stage.

Sun-El Musician, the award-winning producer behind the infectious hit, Akanamali, is also on the list of performers at the festival. He and the Tresor will perform a collaborative set on the main stage.

The Ambassador Luxury Suite will host foodies with meals prepared by hostess Lorna Maseko, paired with a set by DJ Kenzhero.

Other stars set to perform at the festival include New Zealand multi-instrumentalist Jordan Rakei, who recently wowed local fans when he played his first-ever South African gig in Cape Town. The experimental cross-genre outfit, Jazzanova Live, and the British acid jazz band, D’Influence, are all set to perform on Saturday, September 22.

Louie Vega and Todd Terry headline the Vodacom Dance Arena with local legends Oskido, DJ Fresh, Vinny Da Vinci, DJ Christos, and Greg The Maestro.
