Bulls remain on win streak

The Blue Bulls sailed to a 39-29 win over the Pumas in their Currie Cup match at Loftus Versfeld last night, but allowing the visitors to score a fourth, bonus point try on the final hooter meant the Pretoria outfit are not quite safely in port in terms of the semifinals.

The Bulls need just one point from their final game, against Western Province at Loftus Versfeld, which will only be played in a month’s time thanks to SA Rugby’s crazy scheduling.

The Pumas are alive, but only just, needing to win their last two games with bonus points.

What was safe and secure was the Bulls’ handling as they gave a dazzling display of linking rugby, forwards and backs all being involved as they used the width of the field and capitalised on whatever space was presented to them.

The young, inconsistent Bulls were obviously going to go through a bit of a dip at some stage, and it came in the second quarter as the Pumas made use of their strong driving maul to score twice.

With the lead cut to just two points (19-17), the Blue Bulls showed that they have learnt the lessons of their previous games, with the addition of eight more points before halftime, pacy wing Jade Stighling scoring his second try.
