Mosimane vows to address woes

PITSO: WE NEED TO CREATE CHANCES AND SCORE GOALS

- Michaelson Gumede

Arrows will be a big test for profligate Sundowns.

One thing that bothers Pitso Mosimane is that his Mamelodi Sundowns side do not look their usual selves in front of goal. Masandawana have been the highest-scoring team in the Absa Premiership in recent seasons but the Sundowns mentor is worried that his strikers have not laced up their scoring boots yet – something Mosimane wants to change tonight when Downs face Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

“We need to create scoring chances and convert those goals. My players don’t see some opportunities and they make the wrong choices. Sometimes they pass too long and sometimes they pass to the wrong person, when the appropriate person is open on the other side.

“We see these things and we will address them,” said Mosimane, whose side did find the net three times against AmaZulu at the weekend – yet they still ended up drawing the game.

“I think they did well by scoring three goals but they did not do well by conceding three goals, so as a coach what are you going to do. I just hope that we score three goals again which is not going to be easy,” said Mosimane.

Another thing the coach is working on is getting his team to gel, as new players such as Andile Jali are still finding their feet at the club.

“The best combination might take a little longer to assemble. To find the right combination is not easy, I am struggling because I have the players. To score seven goals in four games looks good in the statistics, but on the flow of football, it is not where I want it to be but it will get there and it will flow,” said Mosimane.

He continued: “It flows well when I have Gaston Sirino, Themba Zwane, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Tiyani Mabunda and Hlompho Kekana all starting.

“That is the Sundowns we know and we know we can get proper and swift football. But Themba is injured, Kekana just made it back a few days ago. Sirino has got a groin injury that is bothering him and Motjeka Madisha has got a strain. We need to give them time because normally it takes teams about two years to settle.”
