Cops arrest illegal miners

Seven people have been arrested for possessing gold-bearing materials, as well as gas bottles, scales, gold and platinum testers, cutting torches, plastic basins and gold-burning pots in Welkom, Free State.

In an operation aimed at clamping down on illicit mining in Goldfields by so-called zama-zamas (illegal miners) the men were arrested in separate raids on four houses.

They will appear in court soon. – ANA
