Bremner’s Mangrove could swamp rivals

Yvette Bremner-trained Mangrove has struck top form at the Fairview Polytrack and has a bright chance to make it four wins in a row at the venue when stepping out today with Ryan Munger aboard in Race 4, a Pinnacle Stakes over 2200m.

Champion Lyle Hewitson had the ride three runs back when a clear-cut winner over 1900m. Then teamed up with Munger in his next two outings over the same distance, the gelding posted a gutsy 0.5-length win which he followed up with a resounding 2.35-length win.

That win was a stout effort as he spread a shoe in the running and a similar run should see him in the winner’s enclosure. However, he will have to be on guard against nine-time winner Stormy Eclipse out of Tara Laing’s stable. Also to be respected is Sharon Kotzentrained Multi Gold (Shadlee Fortune).

One to follow is Justin Snaith-trained Libra with Robert Khathi in the saddle. The combination contests Race 5, the Walmer Handicap (Non-Black Type) for fillies and mares. Also in with claims are Minds Eye, Rocksette, Altitude and Smokey Affair.
