Cash-in-transit robbers get 25 years

Two cash-in-transit heist perpetrato­rs have been sentenced to 25 years imprisonme­nt by the High Court in Pietermari­tzburg, the directorat­e for priority crime investigat­ion, or the Hawks, said yesterday.

In October 2014, Nicholas Mkhanyisen­i Mdluli, 50, and Salakuliwa Welcome Msimango, 48, attacked security guards who were transporti­ng cash at Gingindlov­u area.

They fired shots at the vehicle until it halted, poured petrol over it and ordered the guards out.

The duo robbed them of their firearms and made off with an undisclose­d amount of cash.

Police arrested Mdluli that day and Msimango later. – ANA
