‘We’ll follow our processes’

The Golden Lions don’t feel they are under pressure today in Durban against the Sharks to get their Currie Cup campaign back on track, says flanker Len Massyn (above).

The 21-year-old star, who played three games for the SA Under-20s last year, has been one of the young players unearthed by coach Ivan van Rooyen.

“I don’t think there’s necessarily pressure on us, but it is a vital game and we believe if we follow our processes the result will take care of itself,” said Massyn.

“For me it’s great to have regular game time after I picked up a lot of experience in Super Rugby, even though I didn’t get a lot of opportunities.”

At 1.95m and 100kg Massyn, who was a year behind Lions lock Rhyno Herbst at Monument High School, said he is prepared to play anywhere, except in the front row.

“I play blindside at the beginning of a game and then shift to openside, but I will play anywhere in the pack. Just not 1, 2 or 3,” he chirped.

“When I was small I looked up to Warren (Whiteley) and Jaco Kriel, not because they are the biggest players but because of their quick feet. I say ‘small’ because for me Warren is an old toppie,” the chirpy Massyn added.

Kick-off: 5.15pm.
