Rally title fight heads for Mpumalanga

Secunda will host the penultimat­e round of the 2018 South African rally championsh­ip this weekend, with the Lake Umuzi Rally to form part of the town’s annual Spring festival.

Fighting for the year’s overall title will be Guy Botterill/Simon Vacy Lyle (Toyota Gazoo Etios R2) and AC Potgieter/Nico Swartz (Lake Umuzi VW Polo R2), pictured, with a number of other teams able to interfere.

They will include Richard Leeke/Henry Kohne (Speedglas Ford Fiesta R2), Chris Coertse/ Greg Godrich (Electrothr­ead Mazda R2), Tjaart Conradie/Mari van der Walt (Silverton Engineerin­g Toyota Etios R2), Mathew Vacy Lyle/Schalk van Heerden (Yato Tools Toyota Etios R2), JJ Potgi- eter/Tommy du Toit (Verco Ford Fiesta R2), Jono van Wyk/Barry White (Swazi Cowboy Ford Fiesta R2) and George Smalberger/Carolyn

Swan (Shield VW Polo).

The Open class, whose participan­ts can’t score championsh­ip points, will include Theuns Joubert/Chris Brand (Salom Toyota Auris S2000), Rory Eland/ Robbie Coetzee (Subaru Impreza STi), Natie Booysen/Johan Smit (Ford Escort Mk 1), Ashley/Les McKenzie (Ford Escort Mk 1) and Sybrand van den Berg/Chantelle

Burrows (Toyota Tazz).

The Lake Umuzi Rally will start tomorrow, with a shakedown stage opposite Graceland Casino, followed by scrutineer­ing at Eastvaal Ford/Mazda in Secunda.
