Ex-governor jailed in Mexico

– A disgraced former state governor from Mexico’s ruling party was sentenced on Wednesday to nine years in prison for money laundering and links to organised crime in a case that public auditors said was the worst they’ve seen in Mexico.

Prosecutors argued that former Veracruz governor Javier Duarte defrauded taxpayers of hundreds of millions of dollars, using shell companies to hide public funds. – Reuters
