Phumzile will deal with corruption

-

SA has faced a tough and uphill battle against corruption. It has invaded every facet of government, from big-ticket items highlighted in state capture, through to the small and under-the-radar graft in local and city municipalities.

The overpayment for goods and services to enrich a few has become second nature in our country.

Procurement is the most prevalent area where corruption has festered and spread.

The ANC government has been slow to respond or deal with corruption. Under the ANC, people do not get punished for this behaviour, instead they are rotated to different posts as a reward.

To date, no one has been jailed for state capture. The crime fighting units have turned blind eyes due to political pressure or have not had enough man-power nor resources to root out corruption. The ANC have failed us when looking at corruption.

In this climate, the launch of the DA’s Team One for South Africa is a breath of clean and vibrant air.

They have chosen Phumzile van Damme, pictured, to take on corruption. Phumzile has headed up the DA’s portfolio on communications for a few years and led the charge against tainted PR firm Bell Pottinger, which ultimately resulted in its collapse.

She is a feisty and combative MP with a number of years of experience and political nous.

SA needed someone with this pedigree to take on corruption and in this MP, we have been given a great boost. Zuané van Tonder, Tshwane
