Real Madrid face Atletico Madrid in one of the prime fixtures on the La Liga calendar today at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the hosts reeling after being thumped 3-0 at Sevilla on Wednesday, their first loss of the league season.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico won by the same scoreline on Tuesday at home to bottom side SD Huesca and now sit just two points behind their local rivals in the table.

Atletico did beat Real 4-2 after extra time in the Uefa Super Cup at the start of this season, while the two La Liga meetings between the sides last season ended in draws.

Real were always going to feel a bit of a hit after the departure of megastar Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus, and with a new coach coming in in the form of Julen Lopetegui.
