The Citizen (Gauteng)

Justice system is painfully slow

-

Page 9 of Saturday Citizen on September 29 revealed just how slow the South African justice system actually is.

The case headed “Wrongful arrest absurd” took eight years to bring to finality.

“Trollip’s accuser lied” took two years to complete. “Couple murder: five face trial”: the couple were murdered on December 10, 2017 and the case has been forwarded for trial in March 2019. So, the trial will only start 15 months after the murders occured.

“Train cable thief jailed” currently holds the speed record for being concluded in a mere six months.

It seems ludicrous to me to take a trial to court before every piece of evidence and every witness is available. Once in court, the process should not be delayed without really exceptional cause.

It would appear that Jacob Zuma has shown the way to dePresident lay courts and every legal eagle is following his lead. Time to get on with it, people. Tom Lambe
