Vaal racing makes a return

Tomorrow’s race meeting on the Vaal Classic Track will go ahead as scheduled.

After a track inspection yesterday it was unanimousl­y agreed that the track had recovered well enough for racing to go ahead.

The track inspection was done by among others Alfie Little, National Operations Manager of Phumelela Gaming and Leisure (PGL), Craig Mayhew representi­ng trainers, Chief Stipendiar­y Steward Lyle Anderson, PGL management, the track managers as well as the senior jockey on duty Deon Sampson.

Horses were galloped from the 1600m mark and the track was found to be in racing condition.

For tomorrow’s meeting the false rail will be moved to 1.5m around the turn.

This follows after the race meetings scheduled for the Vaal Classic track on Thursday 20 September and Thursday 27 September were moved to the Turffontei­n Inside track in order to allow the Vaal Classic track to recover after a late cold spell and accompanyi­ng black frost.

The horses in question are Afrostar, which won Race 4 at Turffontei­n on 8 July; Hungry Heart which was unplaced in Race 9 at Turffontei­n on 21 July; and Sea Dance which was placed second in Race 1 at the Vaal on 26 July.

After hearing evidence as to an appropriat­e penalty, the Inquiry Board imposed a fine of R80,000.

Furthermor­e, the horses are disqualifi­ed from the races in which they participat­ed. enticed connection­s to allow her to take her chance after her impressive victory in that Group One at York in August.

“Yes, I think our plan is to supplement her,” the Newmarket handler said. “The weather forecast looks dry and we’re happy with her, so that’s the idea.”
