Amazing views when the cloud cover lifts in the mountains.

When weather bureaus across the country confirmed snow this week, it was met with disbelief by the public. But, as predicted, the weather started cooling on Wednesday, with rain and snow falling in the early hours of yesterday morning, reports Lowvelder.

Temperatures in Mpumalanga usually peak in the high 30°C range in October, but a surprise cold front brought snow to one of the hottest areas in the country.

Snow fell in many parts of SA and Lesotho and Rob Ansell from Snow Report SA reported from the southern Drakensberg yesterday.

Ansell said the cloud cover lifted yesterday morning to reveal amazing views.

Snow reports streamed in on Wednesday night from the southern, central and northern Drakensberg, as well as the top of Sani Pass. There were also reports of heavy snow in the Maluti mountains near AfriSki resort.

Snow was reported in parts of the Free State, including Golden Gate National Park. It stretched as far as Carolina in Mpumalanga.
