ANC man gets 25 years’ jail

-

ANC KwaDukuza regional secretary Musa Zondi was yesterday sentenced to 25 years in jail by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg.

He, along with five co-accused, were found guilty of the 2015 kidnapping, assault and murder of a man in Kranskop in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands by Judge Nkosinathi Chili two weeks ago.

A youth league activist for a number of years in the region, Zondi rose to prominence when he was elected as the ANC regional secretary at the party’s elective conference in May this year.

The KwaDukuza region covers Stanger and Dolphin Coast and is regarded as one of the key economic nodes outside Durban.

ANC members packed the court during the trial but following unruly behaviour from some, the judge ordered that only a limited number of people would be allowed to attend the sentencing yesterday. Public Order Policing members maintained a presence outside the court but no incidents were reported.

Party members and leaders refrained from commenting, directing queries to the provincial office. The ANC provincial spokesperson was not available for comment. – ANA
