Back Protected Guest for a win at Windsor

-

George Margarson's Protected Guest is on a roll and should be backed today in the Konig Ludwig Handicap at Windsor.

He has won his last two, both at Yarmouth and both in clearcut style, and has shot up 5kg in the process.

However, until he is beaten he is worth following - because the penny really seems to have dropped.

Whenever Saeed bin Suroor brings one back off a long absence it is never off-putting, and that is the case with Glassy Waters in the Ivor Laws Memorial Handicap.

An easy winner of a Pontefract maiden when last seen over a year ago, his mark of 84 could prove lenient.

London -

John Gosden's Damon Runyon appeared to improve from his second run to his third and should be tough to beat getting weight off his main rival Politicise in the first division of the Prince Luitpold British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.

Third at Newmarket on debut and then fourth at Kempton, he chased home Flying Dragon at Sandown last time out.

The winner had shown decent form in France before flopping somewhat on his British debut, but could go on to be pretty useful so Damon Runyon might have caught a tartar.

Gosden and Rab Havlin could easily double up in the second division, where Reeth makes his second appearance.

The Kodiac colt finished fourth of 11 on his debut at Leicester, where the first three had shown smart form either before or since.

Given newcomers from the yard tend to be more streetwise on their second appearance, an improved showing can be expected.

The step up in trip should really suit Mark Johnston's Gravistas in the racinguk.com/British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Pontefract.

Sixth of 11 on his debut over 1600m at Kempton, he only had an extra 100m to tackle last time out at Wolverhampton.

Nevertheless, he shaped well in second, but he is quite closely related to one of the smartest stayers of recent years in Fame And Glory, so this 2000m trip should be well within his compass.

Johnston's Dream Today finished second in the Autumn Stakes this time last year and while he perhaps has not quite gone on this season, he has still been running to a good level.

Second when last seen at Newmarket, he could get back to winning ways in the Leslie Burton (Fisher) Handicap.

Ed Dunlop's Mawsool has run in two well above-average races to date and might find things easier in the second division of the 32Red Casino Novice Stakes at Kempton.

He finished a very promising third on his debut to Charlie Hills' highly regarded Khadeem, in the same Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum ownership.

Last time out at Newbury he filled the same position behind another Hills inmate, Breath Of Air. He can show the benefit of those experiences. -
