Senior KPMG partner succumbs to greed

One would expect educated people would serve to uplift the people, instead of seeking self-enrichment, writes Ted O’Connor.

Greed is the most influental of the deadly sins; it is overpowering, as can be seen in the saga of the collapsed VBS and stories of blatant thieving taking place.

It seems Floyd Shivambu’s brother was the recipient of illegal takings of R16 million – but more disturbing is the tale of Sipho Malaba, a senior partner of KPMG, who, despite his training and knowledge of mercantile law, succumbed, behaving no differently than the other miscreants.

It would appear he forgot one of his earliest lessons: tracing fraud would be “always follow the money” – and fortunately forgot to cover his tracks.

Now his career has come to an end with a criminal charge pending.
