Bishop accused of rape is bailed

– A bishop accused of raping a nun 13 times between 2014 and 2016 was granted bail yesterday in a case that has triggered rare dissent within India’s Catholic Church.

The nun first made allegations in June but police only started formal questioning in September.

The bishop, 53, was arrested on September 21. He has denied the allegations.

Pope Francis suspended him the day before his arrest. – AFP
