R2 billion VBS theft is a sign of irreparable rot
Those involved deserve to rot in jail as do those who benefitted indirectly, writes, Tom Mhlanga.
The recent revelations in the report on the money stolen at VBS Mutual Bank is a clear indication that our country is rotten beyond repair. How can people, some of whom claim to be leaders, steal close to R2 billion?
We must bear in mind, that money could have been used to improve the quality of lives of the poor people who invested in the bank.
It is also disappointing that a large part of it cannot be recovered.
The relevant authorities must ensure that they punish those responsible harshly so that others learn a lesson.
We can’t sing “down with corruption” every day if nothing is going to be done to the culprits.
Those identified as having been involved in this theft deserve to rot in jail as do those who benefitted from the looting indirectly.
