Get into step with Van Zyl’s colt at Greyville

Gavin van Zyl-trained Marchingontogether has the right credentials to claim top honours in the Listed Michaelmas Handicap, Race 7 at Greyville on Sunday.

This colt lacked experience on debut at Scottsville but made improvement next time when third over 1000m at Greyville. However, with the experience gained from that run, he justified favouritism with a decisive win over 1500m at Scottsville.

Coming off a two-month break and having his first run as a three-year-old with Kennedy up, the colt was a promising 0.75-length second in a 1600m MR 85 Handicap at Greyville.

He will be much fitter this time, and with only 52kg on his back, he should be in the winner’s enclosure.

But expect a bold bid from Lezeanne Forbes-trained Warfarer (Mark Khan) who posted a gutsy fourth career win three runs back at Scottsville over 1950m with a claiming apprentice up. This five-year-old fared well in his subsequent runs with Khan aboard, more so, last time when carrying 61kg and finishing third over 2000m. Dropping to 53kg he could pose a major threat.

Others who could be involved in the finish are American Landing, Roy Had Enough, One Man Show and Sabina’s Dynasty.

The meeting features a Quartet carryover in Race 8, starting with R81,839 and an estimated pool of R500,000.
