Phungwayo back in action

- Sibongiseni Gumbi

TS Galaxy will have their defender Mfundo Phungwayo back when they meet Royal Eagles away at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban this afternoon.

The 24-year-old Phungwayo was unavailable for the Rockets in their past three games with an injury but he has fully recovered and said he hopes to come back and make a meaningful contribution to the side.

“It has been frustrating,” he said. “But I am happy to be back and make my input,” he added.

Dan Malesela will surely appreciate having the experienced former Polokwane City defender as he had slammed his defence for leaking unnecessary goals.

Phungwayo said it would be a battle of wounded tigers as both go into today’s match coming off defeats. Galaxy lost 1-0 to Ajax Cape Town while Eagles lost 2-1 to Real Kings.

“It is going to be a hard one. We are both coming from defeats in our last matches. They will come out guns blazing,” he said.

Jomo Cosmos are meanwhile set to unleash Charlton Mashumba when they host University of Pretoria at Vosloorus Stadium tomorrow afternoon. Mashumba is back after an unsuccessful stint at Highlands Park.

Cosmos and AmaTuks are tied on 12 points after seven matches and this promises to be an explosive encounter.

Mokete Tsotetsi’s Maccabi FC are at Dobsonville Stadium tomorrow afternoon where they host Real Kings who will be high on confidence after their first win in seven matches when they beat Eagles.

Maccabi will also be confident as they also beat Ubuntu Cape Town in their previous match at the same venue.
