Innocent citizens being unfairly targeted

-

Criminals will have a field day if new firearm Bill becomes law, writes Farouk Saloojee from Rustenburg.

‘Taking the bull by the horns”, meaning tackling the most important issue, is what is needed to deal with criminals, instead of targeting the innocent citizen who has a gun to protect his or her family’s lives.

The criminals are going to have a party because they will still have illegal firearms.

The innocent will be defenceless and at the mercy of criminals, who are creating havoc in SA.

This is what Police Minister Bheki Cele should be looking into, not relinquishing the safety of its citizens and leaving them helpless.

What I can’t understand is why the minister doesn’t introduce stricter laws to combat crime, instead of weakening the innocent and its government’s constitutional right to protect citizens.

Why can’t we have referendums on all major issues affecting citizens’ lives?

The government will then hear the views of the people.

One wonders how parliament can pass a law like this that will be unacceptable to 99% of its citizens.

The remaining one percent, the criminals, will be cheering.

It is obvious who is behind crime in SA – it is armed criminals, not those citizens armed for protection.
