Matsatsantsa to face Chiefs, again

AMAZULU BEAT CITY, TO TAKE ON PIRATES

- Jonty Mark

Kaizer Chiefs will face SuperSport United for the third time in a knockout competition this season, when the two sides face off in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals, after the draw yesterday.

Amakhosi will be out for revenge against Matsatsantsa after Kaitano Tembo’s side knocked them out over two legs of the MTN8 semifinals, with Bradley Grobler scoring three times in a 3-2 aggregate win for SuperSport.

The Chiefs-SuperSport rematch, with Amakhosi at home, looks the plum tie of the last eight, where Maritzburg United will welcome Bidvest Wits, Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to the Limpopo province to play Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates will pay a visit to AmaZulu.

It was also announced yesterday that the Telkom Knockout final will be played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on December 8.

In last night’s final last 16 match, AmaZulu beat Cape Town City 2-0. A burst of two second half goals around the hour mark gave Cavin Johnson’s team a fine home win, while Benni McCarthy’s City were unable to find the form that saw them lift the MTN8 title earlier this season.

It was a fairly uneventful opening half at the King Zwelithini Stadium – with Siphelele Mthembu’s shot, blasted well over the bar, and Thabo Nodada’s effort easily saved by Siyabonga Mbatha – constituting City’s best efforts.

AmaZulu took the lead in the 63rd minute as Thembela Sikhakhane got to the byline and cut the ball back for Argentinian attacker Emiliano Tade, who slotted his third goal of the season past Sage Stephens in the City goals.

And Usuthu doubled their lead just three minutes later, Sibusiso Mabiliso’s long throw picked up by Bongi Ntuli, who stabbed a finish past Stephens.
