- Xoliswa Kali

The 52-year-old leader of the Trinity Apostolic Church, Bishop Jabu Ndaba, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Springs Magistrate’s Court this week for raping a minor .

Ndaba was convicted in July on two counts of rape of the minor who, along with her family, was a member of his church.

Magistrate Nkhensani Moila sentenced him to another 10 years’ imprisonment for assault.

The church leader was arrested soon after a formal complaint was laid with the police in November 2016. The bishop pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The victim testified that the sexual relationship began in 2015, when she was 15 years old.

She testified that the first violation happened when she was visiting the bishop’s home with another girl, explaining that he had convinced her that he had divine power to destroy her if she ever disobeyed him.

The visits continued until November 2016, when her aunt found out about it.

Ndaba will appear in the same court on December 10 to face two other rape charges. – Caxton News Service
