Traffic cops must tighten screws on road safety

-

If a car needs to be taken off the road or the driver prosecuted, so be it, writes Godfrey Malibe

One life lost on our roads is one too many. We don’t want any death on the roads – especially deaths inflicted by careless drivers who drive as if they were out to kill other people.

If you drive at a very high speed, drive under the influence of banned substances or drugs, if you drive with tyres that feel like a snake, you’re actually applying to kill yourself or other innocent road users.

For the safety of the people on our roads I’d like to call on the authorities to tighten the screws – especially the loose ones (referring to corrupt law compliance officers). If road rules have been broken, take steps. If a car needs to be taken off the road or the driver prosecuted, so be it. We cannot allow people to be killed.

My advice to fellow drivers? Please be considerate when you drive. Ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy. You are holding people’s lives in your hands. Do you want to be responsible for someone’s death?
