DECOREX: TRADE SHOW THEME IS DESIGNING FOR AFRICA
Organic style with international flavour becomes a global trend.
Drawing on its position as Africa’s largest décor, design and lifestyle exhibition, Decorex SA has unveiled the 2019 show theme that will inspire and unite visitors, designers and industry leaders: Designing for Africa – feels like home.
“One of the many elements that sets Decorex SA apart is the exhibition theme which has been revealed, every year, since the show’s inception,” said Sian Cullingworth, portfolio director at Reed Exhibitions.
“It has to speak to the global industry trends, while also capturing the mood and sense of this particular time in our lives.”
Cullingworth said Africa was finally emerging from the shadows in respect of stylistic influence, being viewed as a leader in design inspiration, rather than a mere accessory.
“The African hospitality industry is growing and we are witnessing a number of emerging markets across the continent, many of them specifically design related or stimulated by African design,” said Cullingworth.
“This flow of movement in and out of Africa is drawing organic African style directly into the global trends – and conversely fusing some international flavour into local décor.”
This dynamic African style will be displayed throughout the various features at all three Decorex SA shows – Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
“With Decorex SA attracting the most innovative décor, design and lifestyle influencers, we host a number of trade visitors from across the continent, all of whom want to witness the leading trends as they emerge,” said Cullingworth.
“They then take this inspiration back home where it is implemented with the unique flavour of each individual country.”
The expo is set to feature the best in 2019 trends, products and designs that depict various elements of African style – all of which resonate with residents on the continent.
“Through artistic design, the many cultures and styles will merge, showing we are united through our African roots. Because this is Africa. This is home.” – Citizen reporter
