Rassie missed the good guys

- Bevan B

Rassie waited for the completion of the Currie Cup final, but he might as well have not watched. The Sharks, pictured, won and coach Robert du Preez must have been delighted and disgusted at the same time.

Not one of his high performing and talented sons were picked for the Springbok overseas tour.

More so, man-of-the-match Akker van der Merwe was not selected. Instead, 37-year-old Schalk Britz, who retired from rugby, is part of the squad.

Has he been picked on good looks and personality? Van der Merwe is the second best hooker in the country and is a fearsome player, streets ahead of Britz.

Also, where did he find 36-year-old Gio Aplon?

What about building a team for the World Cup next year? The multi-talented and extremely quick 20-year-old Aphelele Fassi would have been a far better choice.

With the unavailability of Faf de Klerk, the whole continuity between the pack and the backline will be disrupted.

Disappointed.
