Korea rules for WWII redress
– South Korea’s top court ruled yesterday Japan’s Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation must compensate four South Koreans for their forced labour during World War II, a verdict Japan called “unthinkable”.
In a landmark ruling, South Korea’s Supreme Court ruled that the former labourers’ right to reparation was not terminated by a 1965 treaty normalising diplomatic ties, rejecting the Japanese government and court’s stance, Yonhap news agency said. – Reuters
