More people join unemployed ranks

The unemployme­nt rate edged up to 27.5% in the third quarter from 27.2% in the second. The labour force grew, job losses were recorded in the formal sector, while there were gains in the informal sector.

The job market is likely to stabilise, gradually, as economic growth improves, while recent state initiative­s are likely to be slow to bear fruit. – Nedbank Group Economic Unit
