Carnival goes gospel
MUSIC SHOW: FEATURED LEADING ARTISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
Popular Vashawn Mitchell from the United States closed off on a high note.
Carnival City’s hot music show Gospel Goes Classical returned for its fifth edition last Friday. Held at the glitzy casino in Brakpan, the show was laced with a star-studded line-up and kicked off with a bang as artists from different African countries left it all on the stage.
Backed by the talented classical choir and highly mesmerising orchestra, rising gospel star Tshepo Price left the audience begging for more after he delivered an electrifying rendition of his hit single Yamkela Indzumiso.
Nigeria’s Yvonne May took the baton from Price, as she too kept the spirits of worshippers on a high after she praised her way to their hearts.
Keneiloe Hope and Lebohang Kgapola’s angelic voices did not disappoint as they delivered powerful performances.
Nduduzo Matse’s Gelekeqe saw the Big Top theatre erupting with joy as the up-tempo gospel hit saw people singing along in excitement.
Ghana’s Joe Mettle hit the stage in an all-black ensemble and delivered a classic performance through his worship songs.
Takie Ndou’s set included an array of dance moves that sent the theatre into frenzy.
One of the highly anticipated performances of the night was from award-winning star Ntokozo Mbambo, who left no dry eyes as she ushered worshippers into the presence of the Lord with her much loved song Your Word.
Hailing form the US, gospel maestro Vashawn Mitchell, who has made it known that South Africa is his second home, closed off the show on a high note with his hit songs Joy and Turning Around. His fans, who leading up to the show requested he include his hit song Nobody Greater, were treated to a beautiful rendition of the chart-topping song.
One of Mitchell’s biggest fans, Itumeleng, received a special shout-out from the Grammy nominee.
