The Citizen (Gauteng)

Michaelson’s picks

Pep Guardiola is likely to rest some key members of his Manchester City squad tonight, when his side hosts Fulham in the Carabao Cup.

But let’s face it, whichever team the Spaniard selects tonight, they will be good enough to win against the London side.

Yes, there was that 1-0 shock defeat at Wigan Athletic last season in the FA Cup, but one would assume that Guardiola and his charges have learnt from that setback and would not repeat that mistake tonight at the Etihad.

City are defending champions and another motivation for them to go all the way again would be that cross-town rivals, Manchester United, are on five league cup titles, and so are City.

Nothing would give City fans more joy than to surpass United, as this would be the only competition where they’d have more titles.

And there is the form City are in, with just one defeat in 15 games, scoring a stunning 38 goals in all competitions.

Struggling Fulham have lost all four of their last outings. Slavisa Jokanovic will eventually inspire his side back to winning ways, but not tonight. Pool name: S6 V3 P2 M1: Almeria v Vila Real.
