No room for complacency

After learning who they will be coming up against at the Cosafa Under-20 competition next month, Amajita coach Thabo Senong emphasised the need not to take their opponents for granted.

The defending champions were grouped alongside Namibia, Mauritius and Swaziland following the draw which took place in Kitwe, Zambia on Wednesday.

“Our intention is to approach this tournament very professionally,” Senong, who is in Uruguay for the Fifa Under-17 women’s World Cup as Bantwana’s technical director, told Safa.net.

“We cannot afford to underestimate any sides because they will have worked really hard to improve from last year. We know both Mauritius and Namibia are very aggressive sides and tough to play against. Swaziland are also tricky. We just need to prepare well and make sure we do well when the tournament kicks off in December.”

Senong is looking to use the Cosafa Cup as their preparation for the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, set to be staged in Niger next year.

“There are two things that have to be achieved in this tournament. The first one is to make sure that we are well-prepared for it, so that we can get the best performance out of our players,” the Amajita coach added.

“The second one is to make sure we give our best to try and retain our title.”
