Mighty High to retain unbeaten status
Viv Greybe
Anton Marcus has the pick of the rides on Sunday at Greyville but not so in Race 6 and top event, the Beharilal Mohabir-KZN Guineas trial.
This 1600m Listed contest for three-year-olds could see top-rated filly Mighty High justify favouritism with Gavin Lerena up again.
This daughter of Pathfork went off friendless in the betting on debut when a clear-cut maiden winner at the Vaal over 1000m. She surprised again next time when a gallant winner of the 1200m Allan Robertson Championship (Grade 1) at Scottsville – and that despite her being slow out and baulked in the running.
Then back at home having her first run as a threeyear-old and backed into the red, she had to work harder against all-male opposition – scoring narrowly in a 1200m Assessment Plate.
Her main threat looks to be Sean Tarry-trained filly Second Request with promising apprentice Luke Ferraris in the saddle. This two-time winner was not disgraced last time when attempting a 1600m hat-trick and finishing third in The KZN Fillies Guineas at Greyville.
Two two-time winners worthy of consideration are Affranchi (Warren Kennedy) from Gavin van Zyl’s stable and Tarry-trained Sweet Mary Lou (Muzi Yeni). Next best are Thanksgiving and Stream Ahead.
